There's no question about it- your business must be online. Whether you want to socialize online is up to you. Some people love to spend their spare time online, and others don't. If you want your business to be visible, though, you do need a web presence in this area of your life. It doesn't need to be loud or fancy or even incredibly widespread, but it does need to be there. If someone wants to locate your type of business, he or she is unlikely to use the phone book. They go online and the more they find about you online the more likely they will be to buy from you or hire you!

Have your business added to Google Business Listings. Google offers this implement as a way to ensure that your business gets added to their Maps when people perform searches for local businesses. You can put as many (or as few) details as you want on the business listing. At minimum, you should list your contact information, address and the hours and days that you are open. You might also want to upload a picture of your storefront so that people know what to look for when they visit your location. You'll hardly believe how many people will learn about you just by doing a simple "search nearby" search of their neighborhoods on the Internet. Make sure that you tell people that you have a website. You should have a professional looking set of business cards that have your website URL along with other info. Make sure the URL is printed on your register receipts if you own a store. If you have a store, office, warehouse, etc., your URL should be posted for anyone who walks in to see. Getting your business online is only the first step. You have to tell people that it exists. The more places your URL is written down or listed, the better it is for you.

Having a Twitter account is extremely important. Figuring out Twitter can be quite difficult, especially if social online concepts go over your head. It's like you're on the outside looking in. Even if you don't know what you're doing right away, it's still something you need to do.

You should tweet at least once a day after you set up your account. It will be tempting to tweet once an hour, particularly in the beginning, but you should resist the temptation. You need to find out more information about how to use Twitter for your business in a successful way. Just read it and apply it and you'll be fine.

It's actually not that hard to build a presence for yourself on the web. Just use the strategies we have given you to get this done. It is up to you how quickly, or slowly, this process actually can go.

What is important is that you set the presence up and that you let people know about it. Keep working and eventually you'll get the hang of things.
